Transportation Reference Numbers

A Transportation Reference Number (TRN) is an identification number for a carrier's transportation instrument. It is required for shipments on vessels but is optional for all other modes of transportation. If a transportation method is reported as not using the TRN, the shipment must be verified and corrected. A Transportation Reference Number is also necessary when an error occurs and a shipment must be resubmitted. The list of Fatal Error Response Codes (FERCs) can be found in Appendix A.

Transport mode declarations
